Agile Development Anniversary

Apperently the agile movement turns 5 years old this year. For me that reads as only five years old. My feeling is that the agile mindset has been around for ages.

Most people involved in software development instinctly feel attracted to the statements:

  • Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
  • Working software over comprehensive documentation
  • Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
  • Responding to change over following a plan

As with every plan also this one usually does not survive its collision with reality (not my quote;-). In a corprate world you usually find the need to protect one selve and the wish to focus on improvement versus execution are in direct contrast with these core values.

In addition for my own environment as a Full Service Internet Company it is very hard to find a customer that has enough confidence to engage with us executing based on these values.

See more pointers on the anniversary of the Agile Manifesto.
