Having perspective

Having perspective on things is the most valuable skill that I have come to appreciate over the years. It makes you aware of your own abilities to change things and more important aware of the things you cannot change. The latter element of perspective is a great stress remover.

I was positively surprised what Eric Sink wrote on his weblog after finding out he had moved to the first Google page on the search word “Eric”. A sense of perspective.

On minature-earth a presentation that put some demographics and your own position in the world into perspective.

And a great quote on perspective from the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy:

Trin Tragula was a speculative philosopher who invented the Total Perspective Vortex basically in order to annoy his wife. His wife thought he was an idiot who needed to “have some sense of perspective”, exhorting her view frequently. When he attached his wife to the Total Perspective Vortex, the shock of seeing herself in relation to the rest of the universe instantly annihilated her brain. Although he was horrified by this, Trin Tragula found some satisfaction in discovering that the one thing that a person cannot afford to have in a universe this size is a sense of perspective.
