Perception of quality

I already talked about perceived quality in my post on Issue Management. In a project focus your attention on the perception of the quality as much as the quality itself. The following formula applies:

quality = perception of quality x actual quality

You can raise actual quality by fixing issues, doing proper testing and more well known methods. Perception of the quality is a lot harder to raise. Once people have a bad opinion about the quality of a deliverable they are not likely to change it later on.

So get the perception right the first time. How? By getting the expectation right upfront.

Thanks, I love equations. Perception of quality and actual quality are independent of one another. Perception of quality can be bad even if the actual quality is good but seldom the other way round.
